Teaching & Volunteering...
During the school year 2023-24 (10th grade), I started teaching Art to elementary-grade kids every weekend for 2 hours, teaching them watercolor techniques, oil pastel techniques, and other drawing techniques. The students explored the working styles of artists like Picasso and Kandinsky and learned to incorporate their styles into art pieces of their own. These included paintings, greeting cards, and bookmarks. We also included sensory elements like shaving cream and rocks to help learn de-stressing techniques while creating art. I taught for the entire school year, making my own curriculum based on the kid's needs.
In the Summer of 2022, incoming 9th grade, I taught private one-on-one Art lessons to kids. They were interested in learning in-depth about specific art techniques like using oil pastels, watercolors, etc. I created my own curriculum and lesson plans to teach the kids different styles and techniques based on their interests. This experience taught me how to work around each individual kid's needs and help them get better at their work. It also taught me a lot of patience to work with younger kids while making Art fun and interesting for them. Along with teaching private lessons, I also co-hosted a summer camp through "Art for a Cause" to help raise money for Austin Pets Alive!
In Summer of 2021, incoming 8th grade, I hosted a Summer Art Camp to teach Art to 5-7 year olds. The students worked on different elements of art including various mediums and techniques. They explored the working styles of artists like Picasso, Kandinsky etc. and learned to incorporate their styles into art pieces of their own. These included paintings, greeting cards, and bookmarks. I also included sensory elements like shaving cream, and rocks to help learn de-stressing techniques while creating art. Our projects helped the kids learn and have fun at the same time. We also played games in-between our art sessions that provided fun and relaxing breaks to the kids.
School year 2020-21, 7th grade, I started volunteering to teach Art. I am taught Art every week at Treehouse Learning Community to kids of all different abilities from age group 7 thru 10 years. It was a wonderful experience to teach and learn at the same time. It gave me a different level of appreciation for all my teachers over the years. This teaching opportunity helped me learn how to be patient while explaining new concepts to kids, engage students, manage the classroom, and be a leader while creating curriculum and lesson plans. I enjoyed working with my students. This experience taught me to be a teacher and a student at the same time
I also had the opportunity to design a logo and a banner for a non-profit organization called "Loving Hearts For All." Loving Hearts for All is a non-profit helping South Asian families who have Kids with disabilities. I have been working with them for 2 years now since 2020. I started by designing a logo and a banner for them. The expectation was to come with a logo that represents the organization's mission and values. The mission of the non-profit is to create a support system to help families navigate through various challenges involved in raising a kid with special needs. I was very grateful and humbled to have had the opportunity to work for an amazing cause. I have continued working with them, helping as a volunteer or providing my art teaching services to them. Last year I conducted an art workshop for kids with special needs and donated all the money from the workshop to Loving Hearts for All. I have been volunteering at all their events like the Halloween party, Holiday Party every year and helping with setting up and cleaning after the party, organizing games and events for the party, helping special needs kids during the party as needed etc. It has been a great learning experience and having a brother with disability, helping these events is very important for me.

In Summer of 2020, 7th grade, I successfully conducted 3 virtual Summer Camps/Workshops for kids and adults. I hosted the Coffee Painting Camp for one week for kids and one week for adults; One Stroke Painting Workshop for one week for adults and Art Therapy for All Workshop for a week for adults. This was a great virtual experience to work with both kids and adults. As a leader and an Entrepreneur, I was in charge of everything from designing my website, maintaining my website, uploading pictures, creating different pages and writing information about my art journey, making fliers for my workshops, marketing them, getting people to sign up, conducting zoom classes, teaching kids and adults different art techniques, and filling out feedback forms at the end of the workshop. I learnt time management and how to market my ideas, work by collaborating with photographers, promote my website and paintings, learnt about budgeting and maintaining income-expense sheets. I had a lot of fun learning all different aspects of running my own business!
