Destination Imagination: School year 2021-22, 8th grade, I was responsible for creating sets and props for DI competition. It was a unique experience creating 3 different sets based on steampunk theme.  Our story took place in the 1800s, so we chose the Steampunk theme. As Art Director, I was responsible for researching and planning creative use of steampunk for designing each backdrop. We used classic elements of steampunk with gears, clocks, exposed brick wall & gear artwork to decorate the walls.  Backgrounds were painted using sponge for texture & for a realistic exposed brick look and worn-out effect with cracks. The gray walls had spiderwebs to accentuate the unused look with a cardboard broom at one end  with candles on walls made from cardboard with steampunk candleholders.

While selecting our props we were careful in choosing steampunk décor to match the backgrounds & enhance our story. All the props were created in cardboard, painted in acrylics and metallic for the 1800s look. The travel trunks  recreated the vintage look of that era, while providing as a hide-out for the story. This was a fun and learning experience for us as a team. Our Team won second place in Fine Art Challenge at the Regional DI competitions.
